Agropur releases its annual ESG Report

LONGUEUIL (Québec) July 9, 2024 – Agropur is proud to release its 2023 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report, which highlights the Cooperative’s sustainable development efforts, focusing on more environmentally friendly dairy processing, and strengthening the ties with our communities.

The 2023 report provides a glimpse into our sustainable development work, responsible business practices and efforts to benefit our employees, dairy farmers and the communities in which we operate.

Here are some highlights of the report:

  • Agropur is proud of its cooperative business model, which is based on solidarity, democracy and the pooling of resources. Within Agropur, members exercise democratic power on the basis of one member, one vote. Each year, Agropur distributes patronage returns to our members, depending on their annual dairy production and the Cooperative’s financial situation.

  • In 2023, Agropur announced its goal to reduce GHG emissions generated by its plants in Canada and the United States by 30% by 2031. The Cooperative also committed to reducing GHG emissions throughout the value chain by 24% per kilogram of milk processed.  Agropur is currently updating these targets while maintaining our ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

  • Agropur’s Sustainable Farms Pilot Project has strengthened communication and collaboration with our dairy farmer members in 2023. This initiative helped the participants in measuring on-farm GHG emissions, identifying potential solutions, and sharing best practices regarding animal welfare and the environment. The project has since become a annual program offered to Agropur members.

  • Agropur has been successful in efforts to achieve recyclable or reusable packaging on behalf of one of our major business-to-business customers. Agropur is on track to meet these goals for more than 50 products by 2025.

  • Agropur is proud of our ongoing partnership with Fondation Olo, which continues to benefit Québec families. Agropur has donated millions of cartons of milk over more than 25 years to support the foundation’s mission of healthier babies and healthier families across Québec.

The report covers the fiscal year which extended from November 1, 2022 to October 28, 2023. The goal of the report is to be transparent with our stakeholders on ESG issues, in line with the standards of the Global Reporting Initiative. The report is available in the “What We Stand For” section of the Agropur website.
