Ferme Morine in the Eastern Townships is once again Agropur’s Milk Quality Grand Champion, becoming an Honorary Patron
Drummondville, February 8, 2023 – Drawing rousing applause, Réjean Morin and Véronique Lévesque of Ferme Morine in Coaticook were named Milk Quality Grand Champion on Wednesday. Ferme Morine has earned this distinction for a third straight year. With this victory under their belt, Ferme Morine is now an Honorary Patron.
Presented by Agropur at the Cooperative’s Annual General Meeting, this award recognizes hard work and dedication. “The Club of Excellence has contributed to the culture of quality that Agropur is so well known for today, not only in Canada, but across the United States and even overseas. But above all, this is an ideal opportunity to pay tribute to our members who stand out through the quality of their work,” said Agropur President Roger Massicotte.
In operation since 1948, Ferme Morine has 50-kilograms of butterfat quota per day and a herd of 35 Holstein milking cows. “You need three things to produce quality milk: cleanliness, careful attention to detail, and to be very present with your herd,” said Réjean Morin. Purchased by Morin in 2001, the farm originally belonged to his grandfather, then his father.
Despite long days that start at 5 a.m. and sometimes go until 8 p.m., Réjean Morin and Véronique Lévesque are still enthusiastic about their work. They’ve passed their love of farming on to their children, who are actively involved in the barn and the fields. “When we were little, we were always with them. We got the farming bug!” said Frédéric and Jérémi.
Ferme Morine joins Ferme Jovigny (2012, 2013 and 2015 champions) and Ferme Jolipré Holstein (2016, 2017 and 2018 champions) as Club of Excellence Honorary Patrons. This designation is reserved for farms that have earned the top position three times. “If you look at it like sports, it’s like we retired their number and are immortalizing the farms in the Hall of Fame,” explained Simon Robert, Agropur Cooperation Director.
The Agropur Annual General Meeting was also an opportunity to recognize the excellence of 14 regional champions. “Every year, we have a great, diverse group of farms that are named as regional finalists. This year, we’re hosting farms with quotas between 14 kg and over 1,500 kg, with an average of 112 kg. We know that you can be excellent regardless of the size of your farm,” added Mr. Massicotte.
The Club of Excellence has welcomed nearly 2,000 recipients into its ranks since its creation in 1988. These farms have been selected among Agropur members in Québec, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador.
