Scott Robinson, a dairy farmer guided by passion

In February, Agropur’s Club of Excellence revealed their Regional Milk Quality Champions. Congratulations to all the champions! In this edition, you will learn about Scott Robinson, the Regional Champion from New Brunswick who is no stranger to this Club.

Scott Robinson

For as long as he can remember, Scott Robinson has always wanted to be a dairy farmer. It turned out to be a wise choice – he excels in his chosen field.

Mr. Robinson has been at the helm of his farm since 2009, when he took over from his parents. Over the years he has won numerous awards, having been named New Brunswick’s Regional Milk Champion five times since 2015, and a finalist on three other occasions. When asked about his recipe for success, he said: “I guess I found a routine that kind of works for us.”  And perhaps it really is as simple as that. If Scott Robinson is good at what he does, it’s because he’s doing the job he’s always loved: dairy farming.

However, he’s not the only person responsible for the success of his farm, Dairy Creek Farm, in Wards Creek, New Brunswick. His wife Sebrina is also a key player. Scott and Sebrina have three daughters, aged 14, 19 and 22. They grew up on the farm, and it has given them a good perspective of what it takes to be a dairy farmer. What does the future hold for Scott and Sebrina and the next generation of the farm? Scott is only 48 years old and thinks he still has several good years left in the job he loves. If one of their daughters were to show an interest in taking over, they would certainly consider it seriously. Who knows? Perhaps one day.

Scott Robinson Farm

For the time being Scott Robinson enjoys working on his farm, and especially with the animals. It isn’t the first time the call of the farm has swept everything else aside. “When I was younger, I tried working in a factory, but I soon realized it wasn’t my cup of tea,” he says, smiling. After all, why resist the call of the farm when the opportunity to do the only thing he has ever wanted to do was right there, in front of him? The aspect he enjoys the most is the idea of building something and then improving it. “On the farm, you stop when you’ve finished what you have to do, and not before,” he explains. However, he’s very aware of the sacrifices this involves. “When the girls were younger, I missed a lot of activities because there was always work to be done,” he says. “But I tell myself that growing up on a farm has helped them to understand where the food on our plate comes from.”
