Agropur Joins Forces with ProviCo to Pursue its Growth in Dairy Ingredients
Over the summer, Agropur acquired a minority share in the Australian dairy ingredient company, ProviCo. This agreement allows the Cooperative to strengthen its competitiveness and promote its long-term growth. Agropur will become the distributor of ProviCo products, which will also enable it to develop new markets by distributing ProviCo products. This deal is beneficial for Agropur members, as having access to new cutting-edge technologies in value-added ingredients will allow the Cooperative to optimize its North American operations. Although Agropur will participate in the general governance of ProviCo, the latter remains an independent company from Agropur, and there will be no integration of operations or personnel.
ProviCo in brief ProviCo was founded in 1999 by local dairy processors. The company makes dairy ingredients and specialized dairy nutrition products for national and international markets. Their dairy processing plant in Dennington, Australia, is located on a 34-hectare site and is capable of producing a wide range of products such as instant and enriched milk powders, nutritional powders and foodservice solutions. The plant’s spray dryer, with a capacity of nine tons per hour, can produce approximately 30,000 tons per year. Over the past few years, ProviCo went from a commodity ingredients company to a company with high value-added ingredients. They were able to make this shift thanks to the use of a new and advanced technology that offers higher yields than other technologies on the market. For example, the Australian company is currently developing lactoferrin, a dairy ingredient used in making baby formula.
