Agropur celebrates its winnings at the world championship cheese contest

LONGUEUIL, CANADA – Agropur is proud to announce that many of its proudly made cheeses won medals at the prestigious World Championship Cheese Contest, held March 1-3 in Madison, Wisconsin, USA.

Agropur won a total of 11 awards at the 2022 edition of the major international cheese competition, including three gold, four silver, and four bronze, at the biannual event hosted by the Wisconsin Cheesemakers Association.

Agropur Canada in Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Conseil, QC, Canada won first place for its cheddar aged 2+ years. Agropur US also excelled in the Mild Provolone category, sweeping the top three places with cheeses made at its Luxemburg, Wisconsin plant. The judges were similarly impressed by the Whole Milk Mozzarella from its Luxemburg facility, taking first place. Its winning cheeses are:

  • Class 2 – Medium Cheddar: Agropur-Weyauwega (2nd Place)
  • Class 5 – Cheddar Aged 2+ Years: Agropur-Bon Conseil (1st Place) and Agropur-Weyauwega (3rd Place)
  • Class 15 – Whole Milk Mozzarella: Agropur-Luxemburg  (1st Place)
  • Class 16 – LMPS Mozzarella:  Agropur-Lake Norden (3rd Place)
  • Class 19 – Mild Provolone:  Agropur-Luxemburg swept the class placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd  
  • Class 21 – Smoked Provolone: Agropur – Lake Norden (2nd Place)
  • Class 45 – Brie:  Agropur-St-Hyacinthe with L’Extra Triple Crème (2nd Place)
  • Class 80 – Reduced Sodium Cheese: Agropur – Luxemburg with reduced sodium provolone (3rd Place)

The biennial World Championship Cheese Contest is the world’s largest technical cheese competition.

A jury of 53 experts recognized by the world’s top master cheesemakers assesses all technical aspects of cheeses from the best cheesemakers in 26 countries. Of the 2919 entries, medals are awarded to the three highest scoring entries in each of this year’s 141 distinct classes.
